Some Domain Name Advice For the Best Domain Names By MJ Schrader

Anyone who decides to get a website wants the best domain name. The Internet has been around a while, people have bought and sold domain names. While there are some great domain names still available, there are many more that have been used. If your domain name is used, you might worry about finding something that works.

Where are you?

Your domain name is available with a (dot)fr. This is a location tag. Using.fr is telling search engines you are based in France or targeting French. People who are internet literate but do not able to read French, may not visit your website because they think French will be used.

What if I add some hyphens?

Don't. Think about explaining to people, my domain name is "Domain hyphen Name hyphen is confusing." People are going to need to remember, is there a hyphen between every word or was it between every other word? They may forget that you had any hyphens at all. You want people to be able to talk about your website with others, which means your name needs to be easy to share.

What if I change the spelling?

Your visitors like your website, but they either will not tell others or can not remember. Perhaps the problem is your domain name, people may not be able to remember how to spell "BuckruzClothz." The "Clothes2sexy4work" domain name is hard to explain, and may not be appealing to talk about with others.

Try combining words

You can use one or two words related to your business and one or two not. Career Builder is obviously about building careers. Auto Zone is a car part place. Tiger Creek is a reserve for big cats. You can even add a word or two and make it work. If you have a brick and mortar business, add your location like "Tony's Italian Kitchen in Atlanta."

The Same But Different

Many domain registrars offer similar domain names if yours is taken. Go Daddy offers a nice list, and they also a choice of names even if your name is available. Perhaps there is a even better choice in that list. Even if you do not like any of the choices, maybe it can give you an idea to help you pick another name. You can do as many searches as you want and each search will give you additional ideas.

These are just hints, picking a domain name can seem difficult. While it is a key to establishing your business online, you must remember waiting for the perfect domain name, may mean you never go online.
